2020 Digital marketing trends

Bradley Rose | 18 Dec, 2019 | Return|

2020 is going to see many different marketing strategies used, and here are three trends which have been talked about as influential ways of conducting your digital marketing over the next year:

2020 digital marketing trends
1. Video: Video marketing has proved to be a major asset for companies, and it is set to remain high on the agenda in the coming year. The production and consumption of video content on social media platforms has risen exponentially over the past couple of years and will continue to be a dominant feature of digital marketing. The power of video can be seen within YouTube where over 2 Billion logged-in users visit YouTube each month and every day people watch over a billion hours of video and generate billions of views. As with any successful technology it adapts. With so much content readily available for consumers, the length of videos seem to getting shorter in order to get messages across as clearly and succinctly as possible. This is supported by a 2019-benchmark report by Canadian video platform for businesses, Vidyard. They said that in 2018 the average video was 4.07 minutes long, 33 per cent shorter than 2017 videos, which stood at 6.07 minutes.

2. The rise of social influencer marketing: Influencer marketing is a form of social media marketing involving endorsements and product placements from influencers, people and organisations who possess a purported expert level of knowledge and/or social influence in their respective fields. It started out as celebrities endorsing certain products and brands, but it has now become more personalised. As it becomes more authentic, 92 percent of people trust other consumer recommendations over corporate advertising. With this evidence, it is clear that influencer marketing will figure highly during 2020.

3. TikTok to grow in prominence: Launched in 2016, TikTok allows users to create and share videos. According to the marketing intelligence firm SensorTower, this video service is now the third most downloaded non-gaming app. With this is mind, it would be no surprise that more brands will try to reach their audience through this channel next year. There are several benefits to using social media stories including:

o    Increased brand awareness
o    Constant engagement with followers
o    Cost-effective ad solution
o    Increased traffic to your web page
o    Opportunity to reach younger audiences

With 2020 fast approaching, if you have not done so already, now would be the perfect time to think about these strands to add to your marketing plan.
