Shine Virtual Balloon 2020

shine balloon race

Once again, BBI Brandboost is sponsoring our very own inflatable in the virtual balloon race organised by the wonderful charity Shine, which provides specialist care and support for those suffering from spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Their “Supporting Newborn Babies Race” takes off on 1st March 2020 and we are looking forward to getting up and away!

Last year, with over 2,100 sponsors taking part, our BBI Brandboost virtual balloon travelled a notional 4,854.16 km to finish in 740th position. Well, not too bad considering the number of competitors in the race. And who knows what this year will bring? The virtual sky’s the limit!

Shine holds their virtual ballooning events every year and they are a great way to raise funds and help newly born children with these serious medical conditions to get the best start in life. This includes an invaluable range of support services for their family members.

Since the 1990s Shine has been approaching thousands of companies each year to sponsor their own balloon in these highly entertaining events. In 2009 they started holding their races in the virtual world because of concerns that real helium filled party balloons could cause damage to wildlife and the environment.

Transferring these balloon races from the atmosphere into the cybersphere has by no means diminished their entertainment value or the friendly competitiveness of those taking part. Far from it - and we’re delighted to be supporting this very worthwhile cause.
