A Timely Reminder: Why Website Maintenance Matters More Than You Think

Andrew Libra | 16 May, 2025 | Return|

Website MaintenanceYesterday morning, I received an email promoting a special offer on an electric saloon car. The deal piqued my interest – good spec, decent price – so I clicked through to take a closer look. After scanning the finance site, I wanted to dig a bit deeper into the car’s features (the overview from the finance site was limited), so I headed to the manufacturer’s website.

That’s when things started to unravel.

A top-level vehicle page on their website had a broken link. Frustrating, but forgivable. What wasn’t forgivable, however, was the dead-end I hit when I tried to report it. They had a live chat facility in place, but despite my efforts, nobody responded. I was left talking to the void.

This wasn’t a local garage. It was a major manufacturer. A brand with millions of pounds invested in product development, marketing, and customer experience – all undermined by a neglected website.

As someone who’s worked in web development for close to 30 years, I know these things happen. But I also know they shouldn’t – not if your website is regularly maintained.

What’s the cost of a broken link?

  • A missed opportunity
  • A damaged first impression
  • A drop in search engine rankings
  • A frustrated potential customer clicking away

And in this case? Possibly the loss of a genuine lead.

Websites need maintenance, just like vehicles do.

Too often, businesses invest in a shiny new website, launch it proudly… and then forget it. But websites aren’t “set and forget.” Just like the cars they help sell, they need regular servicing – not just when something breaks, but as a routine measure to keep everything running smoothly.

At BBI Brandboost, we offer ongoing website support and maintenance packages that include:

  • Regular link checks
  • Technical updates and patches
  • Usability testing
  • Live chat and contact form testing
  • Performance monitoring
  • Backups and security checks

Protect your digital investment

Your website is often your first – and sometimes only – chance to impress. Don’t let small issues become big problems. Routine maintenance isn’t a luxury; it’s a business necessity.

If you'd like a second opinion on the health of your site – or just want to know if there’s a broken link hiding in plain sight – we’re happy to take a look.

Get in touch and let's keep your website working as hard as you do.
