The Telegraph reports on a new navigation system that can direct you to an exact location without the use of postcodes. On the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the Longitude Prize (1714) it’s quite neat that the new Mapcode system, developed by the founders of TomTom, is based on good old fashioned latitude and longitude readings.

It’s very precise and can direct you to anywhere in the world, even if there is no recognisable addressing system. Want to meet up with a Facebook friend at a little oasis somewhere in the Sahara Desert? No problem. Whether it will stop large articulated lorries getting stuck in alleyways or down narrow country lanes is another matter!
